During his years on the Family Court bench, Judge Funderburk served as an officer of the Alabama Family Court Judges Association and was its representative on the Alabama Department of Human Resources State Quality Assurance Committee and Policy sub-Committee. He was a member of the Alabama Court Improvement project assisting the Alabama Administrative Office of Courts in its efforts to improve the Family Court system in Alabama. He was a member of the committee that wrote the Alabama Child Abduction Prevention Act. He is a past president of the Russell County Bar Association and served Russell County as the Director of the Children's Policy Counsel for 9 years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Russell County Child and Family Connections and founded the Russell County CHINS program and was co-founder of the Russell County GIGG program. Currently, Judge Funderburk serves as a board member for Girls, Inc. and the Alabama Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.
